Joining WAN-IFRA: strengthening our commitment to the future of journalism

The World Association of News Publishers is the leading global organization representing the interests of the news publishing industry.

We’re proud to share that we have officially joined WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, the leading global organization representing the interests of the news publishing industry. This milestone reinforces our long-term commitment to building a more open, resilient, and sustainable digital news ecosystem.

WAN-IFRA brings together a global network of more than 3,000 publishers, editors, journalists, and media executives across 120 countries. It’s a unique forum where innovation, collaboration, and best practices intersect. Joining this community is more than a symbolic move, it reflects our strategic focus on helping the world’s news publishers adapt to the most urgent challenges facing the industry today.

Our mission: smart distribution, sustainable growth

As digital transformation accelerates, the news industry faces growing pressure to reach fragmented audiences, diversify monetization models, and preserve the editorial independence that underpins public trust. Our mission is to support publishers through smarter content distribution, deeper performance insights, and stronger global syndication frameworks, all while respecting the core values of quality journalism.

We believe that well-executed distribution can do more than generate traffic. It can drive engagement, build brand recognition across borders, and unlock new revenue, without compromising the publisher’s voice or ownership. In joining WAN-IFRA, we aim to scale that vision further, collaborating with partners who share the same ambition for the future of journalism.

Why WAN-IFRA, and why now?

This membership arrives at a pivotal time. Around the world, news publishers are reevaluating their relationships with platforms, reassessing the role of artificial intelligence in the newsroom, and experimenting with new revenue models, from subscriptions to licensing to syndication.

WAN-IFRA provides a crucial space for these conversations to unfold. By participating in its working groups, conferences, and research initiatives, we hope to contribute to and learn from the strategies that are helping media companies not just survive, but evolve.

What we hope to bring

As new member, we are eager to:

  • Contribute to global dialogue on AI in journalism, platform dynamics, and sustainable monetization.

  • Share expertise on syndication strategies and international content distribution models

  • Explore collaborations with both legacy and digital-native publishers looking to scale their reach

  • Support knowledge exchange on best practices across diverse media environments, from the US to Europe, Asia and Africa

Over the coming months, we will actively participate in WAN-IFRA events and engage in global discussions about the future of journalism, including:

  • The role of AI-assisted editorial workflows and transparency in content production

  • Smart syndication and feed optimization for emerging distribution platforms

  • New models for cross-border licensing and revenue diversification

  • Audience development strategies adapted to evolving consumption habits

Joining WAN-IFRA is part of our broader commitment to independent media and the open exchange of ideas. We are here not only to listen and learn, but to offer tools, partnerships, and insights that help journalism thrive in a digital-first world.

If you're part of the WAN-IFRA network, or simply share our interest in the future of publishing, we’d love to connect.
